Introducing Pantone’s Colours of the Year for 2021
For only the second time in the 20-year history of Pantone’s Colour of the Year, the institute has chosen two shades.
The first is a sunny yellow called “Illuminating,” while the second named “Ultimate Gray.” Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, says the two colours were chosen to show how two seemingly opposite shades can compliment each other beautifully. Eiseman further notes that the institute wanted to “highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness.”
Pantone’s Colour of the Year is used to predict trends in industries such as interior design, fashion and beauty. For interior design, expect to see the two colours brought together in unexpected ways. A stone grey tile floor with a bright yellow bathroom vanity. Grey walls with yellow trim around the interior windows. Or maybe a grey exterior with a yellow door to add a welcoming pop of colour.
